A bomb threat sent police officers to the Spring Hill High School on Wednesday. Shortly after lunch, the Spring Hill Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Johnson County Fire District No. 2 responded to a report of a bomb threat at the high school, police chief Mitch Hofmann said. Principal Angelo Cocolis said students found a message written on a bathroom stall, and it was immediately reported to administrators and the school’s student resource officer. The note, found in a men’s bathroom, appeared to have the word “bomb” with times indicated. Hofmann said the times noted were difficult to decipher. Police brought in preventative measures, such as bomb sniffing dogs from the Olathe Police Department, and extra patrol cars. The school was placed on temporary lockdown as police swept the school with the bomb-sniffing dog. Classes were not disturbed during the time the 45-minute search was conducted. The search did not result in any findings. After school, three extra patrol cars circled the area surrounding the school watching for suspicious activity, Hofmann said. Patrol at the school returned to normal Thursday morning. “We’re investigating and have some leads,” Hofmann said. Protocol for bomb threats depend on how viable the threat is, Hofmann said. “We take measures that we need to, like calling out dogs,” he said. According to the high school handbook, threats of violence will be evaluated by the building administrator and/or law enforcement officials. Cocolis said students and teachers did a great job in informing administrators quickly. On Thursday, the school send home a letter to parents detailing the events. “Everyone was safe,” Cocolis said. “It wasn’t a very bright thing for a student to do, but we take everything seriously.”
