The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to be on the look out this holiday season for a woman looking to get money using scams. Sgt. Mike Talcott said that a woman has been going door to door in the Osawatomie and Lane area asking homeowners for money. Her story varies from home to home, but in each case she asks for money. In a recent case, she claimed her boyfriend was in a car accident, and she needed some money, according to a sheriff’s office report. Talcott said the stories are not true, but the woman has not been arrested because she hasn’t committed a crime. He did add that homeowners have the right to ask her to leave or call the sheriff’s office if approached. The sheriff’s office can be reached at 294-3232.
