The only thing better than Christmas is Christmas in a small town.

Paola’s wholesome amenities shine bright during the holiday season, and they can be seen everywhere you look.

Lines were forming inside post offices across the country on Monday, one of the busiest mailing days of the year, and Paola was no exception. Except the inside of the Paola Post Office has one extra mailbox other larger ones might not.

That’s the small red box where children can drop off letters to Santa and get back written responses from Paola’s small-town postal workers themselves. It’s a testament to the spirit of the small-town worker.

Monday night, parents, with video recorders in hand, packed the Paola Middle School Auditorium to enjoy hearing their sons and daughters sing Christmas songs and play holiday tunes. And there wasn’t one complaint when the students sang songs about the true meaning of Christmas, including “Born in Bethlehem.”

Paola, and the rest of Miami County for that matter, is full of people who have sought out the small-town lifestyle for a reason. Building a life based on community support and faith will give all local youth a solid foundation for the future.

On Saturday morning, while much of the country runs out to finish some last minute Christmas shopping, Miami County community volunteers will gather to deliver Christmas presents to children in need across the county thanks to the Cops for Tots Angel Tree program.

Now is a great time to bring family and friends to visit Miami County. The small-town lifestyle has a way of bringing back visitors to stay.
