Le Roy Brooks, 84, Louisburg, formerly of Plattsburg, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at a health care facility in Spring Hill. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hazel May Byrd, of the home. Local survivors are a son, Kevin Brooks, and two granddaughters of Cleveland, Mo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bailey & Cox Family Funeral Service, Plattsburg, Mo. Interment in Green Lawn Cemetery, Plattsburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Vinita Harriet Christy, 86, Osage City, Kan., died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Peterson Nursing Home in Osage City. She graduated from Paola High School in 1940. Graveside services were Monday at Antioch Cemetery south of Gardner. Survivors include two daughters and a son. Matthew Donald Croan, 21, Pleasanton, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, as the result of a vehicle accident. He was a graduate of Jayhawk-Linn High School in Mound City and worked at Cookee’s Drive In in Pleasanton. Survivors include his father, Brent Croan, and his mother, Rebecca Grant, both of Olathe, and one daughter, Karleigh Jaeger. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Curry Cemetery in Mound City. Gertrude Protzman, 93, Emporia, formerly of Paola, died Dec. 15, 2008, in Emporia. A son Ronald survives. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 305 N. Pearl, Paola, KS 66071. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Paola Cemetery. Arrangements are by Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, (913) 294-2372.
Floyd Stalnaker, 83, Paola, died Dec. 14, 2008. His wife, Zola, survives. Services are pending through Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, (913) 294-2372.
Dennis Doyle Weeks, 55, La Cygne, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Miami County Medical Center in Paola. A native of Kansas City, Mo., he served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. His most recent employment was in the produce department at Walmart. His wife of 11 years, Ede Howard, survives, along with 10 children. Services will be at 7 tonight at Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in La Cygne. Visitation will be the hour preceding the service.
