EUDORA — Spring Hill wrestling coach Tucker Woofter is building his program through numbers, but those numbers dwindled as the Eudora Tournament of Champions dragged on Friday and Saturday. However, the Broncos were able to qualify four wrestlers for bracket action Saturday and each wrestler had some success. So much so that Spring Hill finished 12th out of 24 teams with 114.5 points. Michael Nemer was the top Bronco with a fourth-place finish at 103 pounds, while Cody Spader finished fifth at 171 pounds. Shane Slyter (140) and Taylor Kettler (215) each took seventh overall.Nemer suffered two close losses on Saturday, and one that would have put him in the championship match. Nemer beat Tonganoxie’s Adam Thomas 4-2 and later fell to Mill Valley’s Ryan Hodges 14-4 to move to the consolation side. Nemer then pinned Baldwin’s Andrew Morgan, but lost to St. Thomas Aquinas’ Tommy Williams 7-6 in the third-place match. Spader had a tough 171-pound bracket as well. Spader lost to Holton’s Cole Geison to open Saturday, but eventually won the fifth-place match with a 7-2 decision over Lawrence’s Dustin Walthall. Slyter had a rough go of it in the loaded 140-pound bracket, but managed to win the seventh-place match with a 4-0 decision over Aquinas’ Paul Speckin. Kettler’s lone win on Saturday came in the seventh-place match as well, with a second period pin over Holton’s Adam Luthi.
