Paola scores 24-11 victory over Wheatridge to take tourney title PDF Print E-mail

GARDNER — Not allowing a point in the third quarter and a 10-2 fourth-quarter run highlighted a tournament championship for the Paola Middle School eighth-grade junior varsity girls’ basketball team.

After being outscored 7-4 in the first quarter, the Paola defense took over in a 24-11 victory against Wheatridge on Dec. 6.

Paola allowed just four points in the final three quarters of play.

Jossie Bulcock scored all five of her points in the fourth quarter as Paola sealed its tournament title with a 10-2 run.

The Panthers trailed 7-4 at the end of the first quarter, but pulled even with a 5-2 edge in the second quarter. Paola went on a 5-0 run in the third quarter and never looked back.
Tanner Morris scored seven points to lead the Panthers. Taylor Blake had six points.

Other players scoring for Paola were Laura Thoden, Cheyenne Townley and Natalie Hill.

Paola defeated Spring Hill in the first round of the tournament, 15-11.

Morris led the way with six points, doing all of her scoring in the second half.

Other players scoring for the Panthers were Amie Schroeder, Bailey Myers, Blake, Bulcock and Hill.

Members of the eighth-grade girls junior varsity basketball team are Taylor Blake, Jossie Bulcock, Natalie Hill, Tanner Morris, Bailey Myers, Amie Schroeder, Megan Schroeder, Laura Thoden, Cheyenne Townley and Jessica Wolverton.

Paola is coached by Johnny Hull and James King.
