William L. Baudendistel, 78, Pleasanton, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott. He was a native of Dayton, Ohio, and a retiree of the U.S. Navy. He was a civil engineer and had worked for the city and county of Denver, Colo. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Helen Ebert Baudendistel, of the home, and nine children. Inurnment will be in the FortLogan National Cemetery in Colorado. Local arrangements were under the direction of Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Pleasanton.
James David Hart, 72, Vassar, formerly of Edgerton, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, in St. FrancisHospital in Topeka. Survivors include his wife, Mary Rolin Hart, of the home, formerly of Paola. Services were Tuesday in Wilson’s Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Lulu Smith Giffin, 97, Oxnard, Calif., a former resident of the Parker area, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at an Oxnard nursing home. She was a 1932 graduate of Parker Rural High School. Her husband, John Wallace Giffin of Centerville, died in 1994. They did not have any children. Burial will be in the Blue Mound Cemetery at a later date.
Roxie Riley, 80, Richmond, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. A graduate of Pittsburg State University, she taught school for more than 20 years and also helped on the farm. She volunteered at Richmond Health Care and Golden Heights Living CenterRichmond. Services were Tuesday in the Richmond Community United Methodist Church followed by burial in the Richmond Cemetery. Memorials are to Richmond Health Care in care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, KS 66032. in Garnett, helping residents with ceramics. Her husband, James Wayne Riley, died in 1976. Survivors include two sons, Eldon Riley of Garnett and Jim Riley of
Jim Wall, 60, Princeton, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, in Stormont-Vail Regional MedicalCenter in Topeka. He was a lifelong Franklin County resident and attended school in Princeton and Richmond. He was a farmer and stockman until going to work on his 37th birthday for Burkdoll Brothers Inc. of Rantoul. He retired in 2002 due to health conditions. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Judy Wall, of the home, and two children, Karen Marie Milliken of Waverly and Kurtis James Wall of Richmond. The funeral Mass was Tuesday in St. Therese Catholic Church in Richmond. Burial was in Scipio Cemetery.
Eleanor Watson, 86, Paola, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008. She is survived by a daughter, Robin of Kansas City. Arrangements are pending through Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, (913) 294-2372.
