Thanks to the efforts of several students at Sunflower Elementary School, many children in need throughout Paola will have something to open for Christmas morning.

For the second straight year, the school's student council members organized a toy drive to benefit Toys for Tots.

Student council adviser and third-grade teacher Danny Stotler said the school raised more than 150 items, all of which will stay in Paola to benefit local children in need.

Students have been making flyers and posters since the beginning of December to help spread the word about the toy drive. On Thursday, a group of students gathered under the school Christmas tree at the front entrance to help pack the items into boxes to be delivered to a local charity.

Each bulb on the tree has a picture of a different class on it, which helped drive home the attitude of teamwork the school preached during the drive.

"Everyone contributed," Stotler said.

The event may become an annual tradition, he said.
