Spring Hill Postmaster Glen Reed said plans for the community’s new post office have at last been finalized.

After months of effort, locating a site, going through the bidding process to find a contractor and completing other preparations, the U.S. Postal Service has cinched the deal.
“A lot has been purchased, and a contract has been awarded,” Reed said. “Now, we’re just waiting for the schedule of construction.”

Last spring, officials announced the purchase of a tract of land at the southwest corner of Lawrence and Race streets as the site of the new post office to be constructed.

At that time, Heidi Bacon, a project manager representing the Spring Hill Plaza Shopping Center, said a contract had been signed on the property. Bacon assisted postal officials in the transaction.

Spring Hill city planners reviewed the location to ensure its compliance with the city’s comprehensive plan. Then, in August, City Planning and Development Coordinator Jim Hendershot recommended approval of a request to split the lot for the site, saying the request was in compliance with city zoning regulations.

After the preliminary details had been ironed out, the postal service put the project out for bid and, in October, RC Construction of Flagstaff, Ariz. was awarded the contract.
According to Bacon, the selected contractor is to close on the purchased property.

Reed said he and other postal officials are now waiting to find out when construction will begin and how long it will take.
