LAWRENCE — Playing on the same course they shot a school record 308 on to win the Frontier League title in 2006, which was bested by a 305 one week later at Ottawa, the 2008 Panthers found a little more magic on Eagle Bend Golf Course.

The site of the league tournament once again, the Panthers rewrote the record books with a 293 on the course, winning the league title by 28 strokes.

Brad Pfaltzgraff won the individual league title, becoming the first Panther to card a score under par, shooting a 3-under-par round of 69 on the par-72 course.

Clay Crawford came in 1-over-par with a 73, shooting birdies on three of his first seven holes.

Joel Plummer birdied the sixth, ninth and 16th holes to finish with a 3-over-par 75.

Junior Michael Bryson played the best round of his prep career, shooting four birdies to card a 76.

Pfaltzgraff placed first on the leader board. Paola then went third through fifth. Crawford was third. Plummer was fourth and Bryson was fifth.

“That score is probably going to be their legacy,” Paola coach Lou Onofrio said. “It is going to be very difficult for a team to get to that again.

“It is difficult in golf to have everyone getting scores like that,” he said. “Scores tend to go up and down for everyone. On that day, they all hit it. That is an amazing score. It was fun just to be there and see that.”
