Esther Rose Wells, 87, rural Parker, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at her home.

Born Aug. 27, 1921, she was the daughter of Clarence Earl and Bretta May Day Cochran. She was the oldest of their three children. After graduating from Parker Rural High School in 1939, she attended Pittsburg State University for one year.

On July 3, 1940, she and Floyd Edgar Wells were married in Garnett. They made their home in rural Parker and became the parents of four children.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was a seamstress for Mode O’Day for about 15 years in Osawatomie and other garment manufacturers in Olathe, Garnett and Parker.

Mrs. Wells was a former member of the United Methodist Church in Parker, the 4-County Saddle Club and the Frontier Twirlers Square Dance Club.

Those preceding her in death were her husband, Floyd Wells, who died Jan. 24, 2003; an infant sister, Mildred May; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Earl Wells of Clinton, Okla., and Kenneth Wells of Parker; two daughters, Floesta Barthol of Olathe and Ruth Easterbrook of Wellsville; a sister, Helen Quantic of Grapevine, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Burial was in Cadmus Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rance McKenzie, Chris Wells, Clinton Randall, Bill Oxley and Rick Barthol.
