Charles Lester Huggins, 84, Olathe, died at his home Monday, Jan. 5, 2009.

He was born June 15, 1924, in Olathe, where he lived all his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He married Leona Young in 1946. She preceded him in death 60 days ago.

He was a former chief of police in Olathe, and then worked at Delco Battery Plant until his retirement.

He was a member of the Earl Collier Post 153 of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Herb, Junior, and Wayne; and a grandson.

He is survived by his children, C.L. Huggins and Janeice Rawles; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe Chapel, 14275 Blackbob Rd., Olathe, KS 66063, (913) 768-6777. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Olathe Memorial Cemetery. To leave condolences for the family, please visit www.penwellgabel.com.
