    Georgia Mae Ball, 93, Princeton, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. She was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and a 44-year member of the Kansas State Horse Show Circuit. She was a clerk at Waymire Grocery Store in Ottawa for 30 years and retired from Ottawa Country Mart, where she was a food hostess for 19 years. Her husband of 64 years, John W. Ball, died in 1989. Survivors include three children, Donald Ball of Wellsville and Ronald Ball and Sharon Higgins, both of Princeton; and two sisters, including Mary Lamb of Osawatomie. Services were Tuesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Burial was in Princeton Cemetery. Memorials are to the Princeton Christian Church in care of the funeral home, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, KS 66067.


    Richard Christy, 86, Garnett, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at his home. A native of Central City, Kan., he graduated in 1939 from Garnett High School and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned Gambles Store in Garnett for 22 years before retiring. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Edith Umbarger Christy of the home, and three daughters. Services were Tuesday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Garnett, followed by burial in Garnett Cemetery. Memorials are to the First Christian Church of Garnett in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, KS 66032.


    Stephen Ray Cottrell,
59, Paola, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2008, at his home. After graduating in 1967 from Osawatomie High School, he lived in Kansas City for several years before returning to Osawatomie to work in the oil fields. He was managing Miami Pipeline out of his home. Survivors include his mother, Pat Howard of Osawatomie; a daughter, Keeley, of Olathe; and two siblings, Troy of Osawatomie and Debbie of Ottawa. A memorial service was held Saturday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Memorials are to the First Christian Church of Osawatomie or the Salvation Army, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 430, Osawatomie, KS 66064.
    Susan “Tiss” LaVerne Stone, 81, rural Spring Hill, died Dec. 30, 2008, at her home. Services were Monday followed by burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Stanley. Arrangements were by Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill, KS, (913) 592-2244. Memorials may be made to the LaVerne Stone Memorial Fund.
