The Spring Hill City Council is scheduled to discuss Thursday professional design services along with a boundary and topographic survey for the construction of an aquatic center. Council members will look at bids from Aquatic Designs Consultants, Inc. and Ponzer-Youngquist, P.A., an engineering and land survey company. “We are delighted to see that the citizens of Spring Hill have decided to proceed with aquatic center improvements,” said Kevin McElyea, president of Aquatic Designs Consultants in a letter to City Administrator to city administrators. “You and your staff should be proud of the professional manner in which the facilities were planned, presented to the public, and approved as a wise investment in quality of life for Spring Hill residents.” According to the document, the proposed opening year for the project is 2010. Project bidding is expected to begin in the summer of 2009. The design services for the project are estimated to be more than $260,000. The funds will be drawn from the capitol Improvement Building Fund. The amount is reimbursable upon the insurance of the final bond. In addition to the design concept, the city council is also scheduled to look at a proposal for a boundary and topographic survey. Ponzer-Youngquist, P.A. is asking the city for $6,750 for the project. The funds will be drawn from the Capital Improvement Fund. On Nov. 4, residents of Spring Hill passed a half-cent sales tax increase to fund the new aquatic center and development of a new lake side park. Citizens were asked to vote on two questions concerning the aquatic center and the city’s lake property. The ballot questions faced more opposition from citizens in Johnson county than in Miami County. Some of plans for the project include a zero-depth entry pool, slides, lazy river and a concession stand.
