For two quarters the game plan was working as the Spring Hill High School girls’ basketball team held the undefeated Ottawa Cyclones to 21 points in the first half Friday night.

It was a two-point game at the half but a third-quarter run propelled Ottawa to a 55-35 victory.

The Broncos (3-3) matched the Cyclones (7-0) in the first quarter, scoring nine points apiece. Ottawa held a 12-10 advantage in the second quarter. A 16-4 third-quarter run by Ottawa put the game away.

“It was a tough game and we knew that going in that they were going to be that way,” Spring Hill coach Clay Frigon said. “Ottawa’s defense really stepped up in the third quarter and didn’t allow for us to get anything from the field.”

Stacet Czereda and Ericka Simpson each scored nine points to lead the Broncos. Jami Hodge finished with seven points. Other players scoring for Spring Hill were Rhi Lloyd, Kelsey Carbajo and Alli Cutting.
