The Broncos had one of their better shooting games of the year after they connected on 11 3-pointers and had the Louisburg girls on their heels most of the game Friday. Even with all that, the Broncos still left Louisburg with a loss. Despite a valiant effort from senior Ashley Miller and the rest of the Broncos, the Wildcats won the game in overtime, 64-62, after Katelynn O’Hara converted a three-point play with two seconds left in the overtime. The Bronco players were at a loss for words, especially after they knew they had several chances to win it in regulation. A missed free throw at the end of regulation would have most likely given the Broncos the win had it gone in. “I have always been optimistic about this team,” Spring Hill coach Clay Frigon said. “I have seen them play like this all year in practice and was glad to see it on the court. We are definitely going to build off of this. In this tough of a league, we have to learn quickly from our mistakes and work on getting our first league win.” Miller was all about giving her team its first win in the Frontier League and did everything but that. The Spring Hill senior made the Louisburg defense look silly at times, scoring a game-high 25 points, including five 3-pointers. Freshmen Erika Simpson and Jamie Hodge did their part as well with 17 and 12 points, respectively, but it was Miller that sparked the Spring Hill attack. “Ashley was an integral part of us being in the game and extending the game into overtime,” Frigon said. “She hit some huge shots just when Louisburg would make a run.” The Broncos held a nine-point lead at one time in the third quarter, but the Wildcats battled to within three points when Wildcat guard Mandy Mulich hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Mulich sparked the Wildcats with 10 points in the quarter. The lead went back and forth in the overtime and Spring Hill held a one-point lead with 50 seconds left after Brennan Swiderski hit two free throws. But O’Hara’s three-point play right before the buzzer sealed the Broncos’ fate. Spring Hill returned to action Tuesday when it traveled to Anderson County. The Broncos will travel to Gardner on Thursday before competing in the Wellsville Invitational next week.
