A group of current Paola High School students, graduates, parents and faculty recently decided to witness history in person, as they traveled to Washington D.C. for Tuesday’s inauguration of President Barack Obama. Developmental leadership teacher Cristie Sims said she and many of the students had been planning the trip for several months. “We started almost a year ago,” Sims said. The group planned to leave Sunday and is scheduled to return in time for school Friday. The extended trip will give the group time to check out some of the local tourist spots, such as the Smithsonian museums, Library of Congress, U.S. Capitol, Mount Vernon and more, according to the itinerary. Members of the group who went were Cristie and Warren Sims, Ellen and Lindsey Alcorn, Katrine and Nina Copeland, Hannah Dussold, Nicole Hall, Lea Hauldren, Mette Nord, Hannah Ozier, Tyler Peterson, Amber Schroeder and Lesley Wilson. For complete coverage of the trip, pick up a copy of the Jan. 28 issue of The Miami County Republic.
