Inspired by the recent inauguration ceremonies for President Barack Obama, fifth-graders at Hillsdale Elementary School took time to write their own inauguration speeches. Teacher Beth Conner said the students watched much of the inauguration ceremonies, including Obama’s speech, before they started the project.
Here are a few examples of what they came up with. They are written as submitted without editing.

Today is a great day but we need to pull up our country and be proud of it. We need to help our fellow Americans through tough times and not throw them aside like a piece of trash. How can we ever be complete without all of our people? Everyone has a job whether it is a mom or delivering papers. I realize we are going through hard times but mark my words, I will help you people who didn’t vote for me. I hope by the end of my term you will like me and thank you to all that came to my inauguration.

My fellow citizens, I want this country to be eco-friendly, to go green... for all the white gulls out there turning black... for all the animals being chocked by plastic... and for all those birds choking on the smoke filled air... GO GREEN!
Anna Darling

We can help the poor, feed the hungry, nurse the ill. We don’t have to be fighters we can be helpers. We can do it if you lend a hand. If everyone pulls together there will be no limits of what we can do.
Collin Graves

This generation is about to change. We can be the best we can be strong, we can be the intelligent. Also we are the support we need to lend a hand to the needy and help the homeless. We will improve the world. We can be friends with the African, Chinese, Japanese, European.

Thank you for electing me for President and I want to thank the other Presidents that have been in same positions I am right now. You took real good care of our country. I promise I will stop this war if I don’t I will let Biden take my place and God sakes good day.
Ty Kline

Fellow Americans, People of the United States, Believe in yourself the economy is bad but I will make changes. Lift up your hearts to Believe in yourself. Everybody repeat after me, “I Believe Today I walk in here as a president elect, I walk out as a President.”
Jordan Bullcock

Everyday I think of my country as a wonderful place. Sometimes good things happen. Sometimes bad. If we work hard we can fight away the bad and stand up for joy. For we ARE the United States of America.
