Broadmoor Elementary School Principal Deborah Blancarte will remain on the job pending the outcome of the felony drug charges she faces, Louisburg USD 416 Superintendent Rick Doll said Monday. Blancarte was scheduled to appear in Miami County District Court for a preliminary hearing next week on felony drug charges, but Miami County Attorney Dave Miller said Tuesday the hearing has been put on hold while plea negotiations take place. He said he still expects there to be a court appearance on Feb. 3, but it likely will not be a preliminary hearing. Blancarte is charged with possessing the pain killer hydrocodone and attempting to possess the drug between Aug. 1 and Oct. 1, 2008. Blancarte allegedly attempted to unlawfully refill a hydrocodone prescription but failed, according to court documents. Both drug charges, which were filed Dec. 1, are punishable by 10 to 42 months in a state prison and a fine not to exceed $100,000. Several district parents with children in the school have expressed displeasure that Blancarte continues to hold her position. Doll said he could not comment further because it is a personnel matter.

This is a bunch of hooey! She should not be allowed to work at the school or be around our children while going through this process. Why take a plea if not guilty?? Sounds fishy to me.

Sounds to me like maybe everyone needs to start looking to replace the superintendent since nobody can trust him to do the right thing. He should at the least put her on paid administrative leave until this is over. It is great knowing that the person that is overseeing our childrens education is being accused of all of this and is still working hand and hand with our children.

As parents, we should all be very concerned that this has gone on this long before becoming public knowledge. How many of Blancarte's decisions have been made while under the influence? The school board/superintendent should be under examination as well, that action hasn't been taken. Paid leave at the very least should have been mandated at the time of arrest. If a teacher had violated any laws, wouldn't they be under intense scrutiny? And a plea agreement sounds like an admission in my book! Why does this town always turn the other cheek on these issues?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! I AGREE WITH IT ALL! No one seems to know what exactly is going on and I believe that Dr Doll needs to step up and make a statement. If you are not guilty why take a plea...why not fight for your innocence??

As a parent with children in the Louisburg school district I to am embarrassed and appalled that our school board and Dr. Doll allows this principal to remain on the payroll. But with Dr. Dolls history this doesn't surprise me either. Our first mistake was hiring him to begin with. Why are we as parents allowing this, shouldn't we all step forward and raise alittle hell that something be done. We are talking about our children. Regardless of the hearing this principal has lost much respect from the community and will have a hard time regaining our trust. She needs to move on and we need a wiser superindendent and school board!

I do Not know this person, so my comment is strictly based on my opinion and a past incident involving a family member. Taking a Plea is NOT a form of guilt, or admission. Sometimes the deal that is presented to you gives you a far greater chance of a lighter sentence rather than putting your life in the hands of a jury. ALSO, some people, even if you WANT to fight it, can't afford to do so. I'm not saying that it's right, but just that it is sometimes a safer way out. Like I said, I don't know this person, or much about the case. Just my opinion.

I have some knowledge of this case. You need to remember "innocent until proven guilty". There is always more to a story than what you read in the paper. She is a good person.

Doll is not on her side by any means...he doesn't want to condemn her of course but he has said that he doesn't believe that what she did was right...There is always more to the story...I don't know exactly what she did but I know the rumors are mostly fabricated...she wasn't selling...she was using the meds for her pain...real pain...don't judge someone before you get the whole story...I don't know everything about the case but I know I'm not going to call her a horrible person, who you all think needs to rot in jail, until I hear the whole thing...have a little heart...

I worked with Debbie in KCK. I found her to be very professional and really student centered. I feel very bad that something in her life led her to make a poor decision. I pray for her and her family and that they possess strength in the coming days

Some say that they could believe that this could happen in Kansas City but not here. Has anyone stopped to think that Debbie was in Kansas City for several years, maybe she is running from this "mistake" she so calls it. Yes, she may need help but not on or during my child's education time and dollars!!

We know Debbie and her family well. She has been to our sons birthday party and we have visited with them countless times. She deserves the innocent until proven guilty benifit of the doubt.Anyone who has had the mis fortune of dealing with our joke of a justice system knows you take the deal even when your innocent. Unless you are rich and can pay them off. 14

To who wrote, “I’m embarrassed to say I live in Louisburg” GET OUT! I’m not Embarrassed and actually am very proud to live in Louisburg. I’m also extremely disappointed with Mr. Doll and the worthless school board. Blancarte needs to be suspended immediately pending further investigation. USMC Retired

As a former aministrator in KCK, I can assure you that Debbie was not running from anything. Her last school in KCK was awarded the Blue Ribbon for Excellence School. These awards are only given to a couple of hundreds schools throughout the nation. Her head was held high and deservingly so. Again, my heart goes out to Debbie for making a poor choice and to her family for enduring waht they have had to over the last several weeks. Please pary for her three children and Debbie's parents.

Her last school in KCK, White Church Elementary, was awared the Blue Ribbon BEFORE Debbie was assigned as principal of the school. At the time the award was given to the school, Neadia Riley was principal. http://www.ed.gov/programs/ncl...tional.pdf

I am a parent of a child in Broadmoor Elementary. We are new to the school district, and I am shocked to have found this out from my 5th grader 1st! I think the situation was handled VERY poorly.

You people really need to wake-up, it's not like she's taking mind altering illegal drugs, I don't know the story but it sounds like she's addicted to a pain killer and got into trouble because of it. This doesn't make her a bad person or unable to do her job, just someone that needs help, not this crap you are all dishing out.
Unfortunately she did do something (allegedly) illegal so because of this she should be on leave but NOT fired. As far as Doll and the school board goes, they are useless. Doll flat out told me once that making sure the children are treated fairly "was beneath him" so you can't expect anything out of him and the school board won't return e-mails because they just don't care either. They want the "title" of the job but not the work involved in seeing that our children get a good and right education. 19
