Mabel Frances Hiatt, 80, Hillsdale, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Royal Terrace Nursing Center, Olathe.

She was born Sept. 16, 1928, in Ocheltree, Kan., to Ralph Emerson Morris and Callie Marie Letcher Morris. She was a life-long area resident, attending Olathe schools.
She married William Ernest “Bill” Hiatt on April 20, 1951, in Bentonville, Ark.

She was a cook for the Spring Hill school district in the 1960s and 1970s and was also a homemaker.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Spring Hill. She enjoyed growing flowers and working outside. She loved her family and will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 4, 2009; son Richard Allen Hiatt and brother Harold Morris.

She is survived by her children Debra Ann Clark and Robert William Hiatt, both of Hillsdale, and Brenda Lea Becker of Spring Hill; sisters Barbara Knop of Spring Hill and Doris Cannon of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S. Webster St., Spring Hill, KS 66083, (913) 592-2244. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Spring Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to www.brucefuneralhome.com.

  •     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

I was sorry to see in the paper today that Mabel had passed away. It is really a sad time for you kids when both of your parents die so closely together. I am thinking and sending my thoughts and prayers to all of you.
