The total number of crimes reported in Paola in 2008 decreased slightly compared to 2007, according to statistics released last week by the police department.

A total of 541 crimes were reported last year, 12 fewer than the 553 reported in 2007. The department cleared 74 percent of the crimes last year, compared to 78 percent in 2007.
