The American Red Cross rejuvenated its blood supply last week thanks to several volunteers and donators at Paola Middle School.

The annual blood drive, which took place from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4, accumulated 34 productive units of blood. Coordinator Rhonda Prothe said 41 people showed up to donate, 31 of whom were donating for the first time.

The school sponsored the drive as part of the American Red Cross’ Would You Be My Hero program. The program encourages students to play a major role in the blood donation process by recruiting parents, guardians or other adults to give blood. Students volunteered their time during the blood drive to ensure its success.
