Trailing 10-2 as they came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning of their final game of the season, the Paola High School junior varsity baseball team would not let Ottawa leave the Rock Stadium without having to battle.

Max Teeters walked with one out to start the rally. Sam Schneider walked with two outs.

Down to its last out in 2009, Tanner Staats drew a base on balls to load the bases May 14.

Jeremiah Daniels drew the fourth walk of the inning, scoring Teeters.

Seth Kern came to the plate and belted a home run, clearing the bases as Paola closed the gap to 10-7.

Taylor Harris kept the inning alive, working a walk in his at-bat.

The rally would not last. Ottawa got the third out on a ground ball to third, ending Paola’s threat in the 10-7 victory.

Austin Dent homered to put Paola on the scoreboard in the second inning. Staats walked and scored in the sixth inning.

Kern’s home run was the key blast in the five-run rally that came up short in the seventh.

Staats had two runs scored for the Panthers. After not getting a walk in the first five innings, Paola drew eight walks in the last two innings.

Dent and Kern homered. Austin Ohlmeier, Chris Edwards, Daniels and Harris singled.

Kern started the game and pitched into the fifth inning. He took the loss. Matt Haefele came on in relief and worked the rest of the fifth, the sixth and the seventh.

Taylor threw a no-hitter and Teeters hurled a four-hitter as Paola swept a doubleheader at Baldwin City on May 9 by scores of 17-0 and 14-1.

Taylor struck out four, walked one and hit a batter. He set down the 11 batters he faced, before walking a batter and hitting the next in the fourth inning.

Staats and Haefele each had three runs scored in the 17-0 victory. Edwards and Schneider both scored two runs.
Kern homered and scored three runs as Paola won the second game 14-1. Staats walked, reached on an error, singled, stole two bases and scored three runs.

Dent reached on an error, singled and scored twice.

Wes Mersman had three singles, stole two bases and scored.

Teeters struck out five, walked two and hit a batter. He allowed one run on four base hits.
