Residents have the opportunity to give their input on possible funding and future development in Spring Hill. City officials have scheduled a public hearing for citizens, groups and agencies regarding the Community Development Block Grant. The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in room 15 of the Spring Hill Civic Center, 401 N. Madison St. The hearing will be a part of the regular city council meeting. In a notice, City Clerk Beverly Hayden said the city is considering an application to Johnson County for CDBG funds for the 2010 fiscal year. The Johnson County program allows cities to apply for $100,000 with a maximum of $200,000 for special projects. During the meeting, there will be an opportunity for the public to give input on funding and the possible use of the CDBG in 2010. The grant can help resolve development and housing needs. Funds can be used for eligible activities including housing rehabilitation, public improvements, economic development and public services. “Those interested in community development and housing needs in the city should attend and make their ideas known,” said Hayden in a release. “Written comments are invited.” The projects must address one of the national objectives of the grant including the benefit of low and moderate income citizens, aid in the prevention of elimination of slums or blight or to meet other community development needs having particular urgency.
