During a dress rehearsal, members of the youth Broadway Review practiced their lines for next weekend’s production of “Peter Pan Rock!” The event will feature about 40 performers. “It was really challenging, because we had huge groups,” director Sarah Ackerman-Hale said. “... But it was fun, and they’re doing a great job.” She said this is the first full-length play for Broadway Review. “I wanted to do something that would really spark the kids’ imaginations, and there’s no other play that does that better than Peter Pan,” Ackerman-Hale said. “There’s so many roles that are perfect for kids. Everyone got to choose a part.” She said the two-night production will feature four different Peter Pans and two Captain Hooks. Albree Kaderly is one of the Peters. “He has a lot lines,” the 11-year-old said, “and I like working with everybody here. They’re my friends.” She said the lines she has to remember are challenging, along with finding parts for her costume. “Wal-Mart is a lifesaver,” she said. Ackerman-Hale said the script did not come with music, so popular music was used. Tunes by The Jackson 5, Elton John, Rod Stewart and Madonna are among the songs featured in the play. “It was a lot of fun to take something everyone knows and put our own twist on it,” the director said. Children began practicing in April. Kristen Spatz, 11, is playing a mother and a Lost Boy. She said memorizing lines was challenging, but she enjoys Broadway Review. “I’ve been doing this for two years, so I like it all,” she said. “I’m going to be doing it for a long time.” “Peter Pan Rocks!” performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. June 19 and June 20 at Spring Hill Middle School, 301 E. South St.
