City officials and agents are working to tackle the issue and limitations of real estate signage within Spring Hill. A proposed amendment that would limit the amount and time signs are displayed was recently presented to the Spring Hill Planning Commission. The amendment included a provision stating that a combination of “for sale,” “for rent,” or “open house,” signs shall not exceed a total of two signs per street front. The second amendment stated signs must be removed 24 hours after an event. Commissioner Brian Haupt suggested 48 hours before signs are removed. During the gathering, the removal of political signs was also discussed. Jim Hendershot, planning and development coordinator, said citizens in local elections are not going to leave their signs out because they have pride in their community. He said elections outside the city may be an issue. “If we go pick up their campaign signs, people are going to be calling wanting to know where their signs are at,” Hendershot said. Commissioner Cindy Squire said the idea of city workers picking up signs after the allowed time period could become a problem because political candidates are not going to make an effort to pick them up because they know the city is going to do it. Hendershot said the issues could become clutter for the city. He later suggested a public hearing after commissioners questioned why real estate agents were absent during the meeting. In other business: An addition to the AGC Flatglass building was approved by the Spring Hill Planning Commission. The addition will be included on the north side of the building located at 20400 N. Webster St. The scrubber building will house equipment to remove undesirable products in the process of manufacturing. The planning Commission discussed an annual report that featured statistics, conditional-use permits and housing subdivisions currently being built or able to be built. Planning commission members discussed the Midwest Auto Group located at 210 N. Webster St. The issues discussed include the location of vehicles, use of a fenced area, use of the parking lot and storage of the vehicles. Planning Commission members voted to not have the next commission meeting scheduled for July 2 because of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
