The Miami County Medical Center on Thursday honored the charitable people and organizations whose donations have helped make several recent improvements at the hospital. The emergency/outpatient entrance at the medical center was filled with more than 20 people for the donor recognition program in which the names of more than 80 people and organizations who have donated varying amounts to the hospital were read to the crowd. Administrator Jerry Wiesner said the donations have been used for a number of things, including remodeling and equipping the pediatrics emergency room, two pediatric in-patient rooms and a mammography room. The top contributors were Olathe Medical Center Inc., more than $1 million; L.W. Baehr and Dolpha Baehr Foundation and Velma Kelly, more than $25,000; Helen M. Heinlein, Jewel Roman and Dean E. and Cleta J. Smith Charitable Fund, $15,000 to $24,999; Jim and Beverly Clemens and Kathryn Rogers, $10,000 to $14,999; in memory of W.O. Appenfeller, MD, Miami County Medical Center Auxiliary and in memory of Kenneth and Clarice Mohler, $5,000 to $9,999. The names of the larger donators are written on a wall at the medical center, and the hundreds of names of people who have given less than $1,000 are written within a circular display at the medical center called the Miami County Medical Center Circle of Friends.
