Honoring its 18-5 season, which ended with a Class 4A regional runner-up trophy, Frontier League coaches named four Paola High School softball players to its first-team, all-league team.

Austin Boehm, Kylee Mader, Kayla Offutt and Allison Wood were first-team selections for the Panthers.

“All were very deserving,” Paola coach Troy Collier said. “I felt all-league selections showed how strong our team was this season. The league coaches thought so as well.

“I feel it was a successful season,” he said. “But, we had high expectations of returning to state.”

Cassidy Labra of Spring Hill was a second-team selection at outfield.

Mackenzie Hallstrom was an honorable mention selection at shortstop.
The Panthers, who made two trips to state in the last three years, returned four of its five all-league selections.

Boehm, a senior, hit .403 with 29 base hits in 72 at bats. She had a pair of doubles. Boehm drove home eight runs and scored 17 runs. She stole 16 bases in 17 attempts.

Playing left field for the Panthers, Boehm had 11 put outs and two assists.

“Boehm earned, from hard work and effort, first team outfield,” Collier said.

“Mader being first-team pitcher showed what everyone missed last season,” Collier said.

Wood hit .279, driving home 19 runs and scoring 18. She had 24 hits in 86 at-bats with six doubles.

“Wood again was named the best first baseman in the league,” Collier said.

Hallstrom hit .312 with 24 hits in 77 at-bats. She had three doubles and one triple. Hallstrom drove home 20 runs, tied for the team lead, and scored 18 runs. She was a threat on the base paths, stealing a team-leading 19 bases in 22 attempts.

“Hallstrom had very tough competition at shortstop and earned honorable mention,” Collier said. “I see very good things out of her in the future. I am already looking forward to next season.”
