Paola USD 368 officials are asking local residents to be on the lookout for door-to-door scams.

Cheri Cowman, USD 368 administrative assistant, said the district recently received calls from two parents in rural Miami County who both explained situations in which a man came to their door and said he was from the school district.

The women quickly dismissed the person, but he was believed to have been attempting to sell a product, possibly study guides.
Cowman said when the person was not allowed to come into the house, he pushed harder, saying the schools are worried about the kids, and the parents should be, too.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office has been contacted, and Cowman said district officials are spreading the word about the man, who definitely is not associated with the schools.

“That’s not how we do business,” Cowman said.

Anyone with information about the scam may contact the sheriff’s office at 294-4444.
