It was graduation day Sunday in Paola for 46 adults of varying ages who all put in the work and dedication required to earn their GEDs.
Graduating students from Paola Adult Education Center, Osawatomie Community Learning Center and Ottawa Adult Education Center all donned black caps and gowns in front of friends and family at Paola High School on Sunday and proudly accepted the certificate that marks their successful completion of the GED’s five subjects: social studies, science, reading, writing and math.

“Be proud of yourselves,” said Karen Ulanski, regional director of all three centers. “You decided that all those roadblocks that had been in your way weren’t in your way anymore. New doors will open for you that wouldn’t have been there before.”

Paola USD 368 Superintendent Rod Allen, Osawatomie USD 367 Superintendent Gary French and Ottawa USD 290 Superintendent Dean Katt awarded the certificates to the graduating students.

Although the adults weren’t all the same age, the emotion was similar to that of a high school graduation, as many pumped their fists, waved to family and friends and tossed their caps into their air when the ceremony concluded.

The graduates were Carrie Allen, Tyler Berry, Marie Blackwell, Amber Bounds, Daniel Brenneman, Brandy Burnett, Logan Carland, Jason Carter, Brandy Cox, Stacy Cuerden, Misty Elliott, Teresa Everts, Molly Hall, Israel Hemp, Michael Herl, Kathy Hurteau, Chase Jones, Tyler Kratzberg, Salima Kudchiwala, Tyler Lee, Sherman LeJeune, Lisa Lester, Carrie Loar, Michael Logan, Patricia Luckey, Tikal McIntosh, Honesty Mecum, Jessica Meyer, Jacob Mills, Almas Morani, Michael Morris, Courtney Mosley, Christina Munson, Jessica Parisot, Randi Payne, Brandon Ritter, Sabastian Robinson, Jake Russell, Scott Shaffer, Jordan Stockstill, Jake Stout, Christina Trager, Salome Wanyoike, Chance West, Brandi Worley and Daniel Yarbro.
