Panthers, Broncos honored by league baseball coaches PDF Print E-mail

One Paola Panther and three Spring Hill Broncos were first-team, all-league baseball selections recently announced by Frontier League coaches.

Paola lost to Prairie View in the Class 4A regional semifinals. The Panthers, 9-12, had a total of five players named to the all-league team.

All-league selections for the Panthers were Kurtis Burton, Jonathan Pomatto, Conner Kresin, Austin Porter and Jack Pursley.

Spring Hill fell in the Class 4A regional finals against Bishop Ward. The Broncos were 11-12. In addition to its three first-team selections, Spring Hill had three second-team selections.

Spring Hill players selected all-league were Brady Donahue, Jordan Miller, Colton Ghumm, Jesse Mayes, Evan Smith and Patrick Donahue.

Burton of Paola was named to the first team as utility player. He hit .308 for the Panthers with 14 hits in 39 at bats. He had two doubles, drove home six runs and had seven runs scored.

Brady Donahue of Spring Hill was also a first-team selection as utility player. Donahue hit .364 with 25 hits in 55 at bats. He had four doubles and one home run. Donahue drove home 10 runs and had 12 runs scored.

Burton and Donahue played a number of positions in the field for the Panthers and the Broncos.

Ghumm of Spring Hill was a first-team selection as designated hitter. Ghumm hit .362 with 31 hits in 69 at bats, including two doubles, two triples and two home runs. Ghumm drove home 23 runs and scored nine runs.

Miller of Spring Hill was a first-team selection at outfield. Miller hit .494 with 40 hits in 81 at bats. He had 11 doubles. Miller drove home 14 runs and had 21 runs scored.

Miller had 24 put outs and seven assists with one error for a .969 fielding percentage.

Coaches voted for each player in the league with No. 1 going to their pick for the top player at each position. Coaches could not vote for their own players.

Pomatto of Paola was a second-team selection at pitcher and an honorable mention at shortstop.

Pomatto was 5-2 with a 2.67 earned run average. He struck out 49 in 36 innings pitched.

He hit .464 with 26 hits in 56 at bats. Pomatto had eight doubles and two triples. He drove home 20 runs with 14 runs scored. Pomatto had 24 put outs, 96 assists and 11 errors for a fielding percentage of .916.

Smith was a second-team selection at catcher for Spring Hill. He hit .416 with 32 base hits in 77 at bats. He had four doubles, one triple and one home run. Smith drove home 17 runs with 12 runs scored. He had a .946 fielding percentage with two errors in 37 chances.

Kresin of Paola was an honorable mention selection. He hit .385 with 20 hits in 52 at bats. Kresin had a .981 fielding percentage with two errors in 106 chances.

Mayes of Spring Hill was a second-team selection at second base. He hit .397 with 27 hits in 68 at bats with 11 runs batted in and 16 runs scored. He had 24 put outs with 30 assists and seven errors for a .885 fielding percentage.

Patrick Donahue was a second-team selection at outfield for Spring Hill. Donahue had a .408 batting average with 29 hits in 71 at bats. He drove home seven runs and had 20 runs scored. Donahue had 17 put outs and two assists without a single error.

Porter of Paola was a second-team selection at designated hitter. He hit .375 with 18 hits in 48 at bats with three doubles and five home runs. Porter drove home 19 runs with 10 runs scored.

Pursley of Paola was an honorable mention in the outfield. Purlsey hit .327 with four doubles, one triple and one home run. He drove home five runs with 11 runs scored.
