BASEHOR, Kan. — Despite losing its first game 6-4, there was no stopping the Paola Panthers 12-year-old and under baseball team from winning the Basehor Father’s Day Invitational.

The Paola boys responded to their first-round loss against the Olathe Knights by winning four consecutive games, including a 7-2 victory against the Olathe Northwest Renegades on a two-hitter from Braden Finch, who struck out one and allowed two runs in six innings.

Brayden Pearce was walked his first two times up in the championship game June 21 and for good reason, he came into the contest with six home runs in the tournament.

The bad news, at least for Olathe Northwest, was that Pearce wasn’t finished.

He homered again, getting a pitch to his liking in the fourth inning and crushing it for a two-run blast.

The Paola Panthers, 4-1, outscored their opponents 49 to 18 in the tournament.

Dustin Rojohn and Finch each had two base hits in the championship game. Jake Robison and Pearce both scored two runs.

Ryan Kendrick, third base; Luke Robinson, second base; and T.J. Thomas, shortstop, played outstanding defense in the tournament and especially the title game, Paola coach Jeff Pearce said.

Brock Huber, playing center field, recorded the last out with a sliding catch.

Brayden Pearce hit two home runs in a 12-7 victory against the Hitmen in the semifinals.

Rojohn recorded his second win of the tournament, throwing 78 pitches.

Pearce gave Paola a 2-1 lead in the first inning. The Panthers blew the game wide open with a six-run, second inning, highlighted by base hits from Avery Boehm, Huber, Kendrick, Robinson and Robison.

Pearce hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning and Paola added two more runs in the fifth.

Pearce and Robinson each had three runs scored. Robison and Finch both scored twice.

Rojohn threw a two-hit shutout in a 12-0 victory against the Kansas Thunder. He struck out four in three innings of work, throwing 34 pitches.

Pearce clubbed two home runs for the Panthers, hitting shots in the first and third innings.

Paola led 3-0 after the first inning and then struck for nine runs in the third to seal the win.

Pearce scored three runs, including two runs in the third inning. He was walked to open the inning and scored. Pearce homered in his second at bat of the frame, ending the game by run-rule. Boehm and Robinson each scored twice.

Rojohn scored three runs as Paola defeated the Deuces 14-3, starting its four-game winning streak to the title.

The Panthers struck for nine runs in the first inning and never looked back. Grant Howell, Robinson, Pearce, Boehm and Finch singled to spark the nine-run frame.

Paola added four runs in the third inning and one run in the fifth inning.

Robinson and Finch each had two base hits in the game. Robinson scored one run. Finch scored twice.

Thomas and Kendrick each had two runs scored.

Robinson pitched the complete game, allowing three runs on four base hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Despite a pair of homers by Pearce, the Paola Panthers lost its first game against the Olathe Knights.

Pearce drove home three of Paola’s four runs. He clubbed a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Robinson singled in the fifth inning and scored on a base hit by Howell.

Pearce hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.

The Olathe Knights took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added a run in the second.

Pearce made it 3-2 in the fourth inning.

Olathe put two more runs across in the fifth inning, and although Paola added another run, held on for the 6-4 victory.

Playing for the tournament championship Paola Panthers were Avery Boehm, Braden Finch, Grant Howell, Brock Huber, Ryan Kendrick, Brayden Pearce, Dustin Rojohn, Luke Robinson, Jake Robison and T.J. Thomas.

Paola was coached by Dave Boehm, Jeff Pearce, Matt Rojohn and Fred Thomas.
