The Spring Hill Multi-Service Center is hosting a school supplies drive to help families in need.

Stevie Morris, community social services manager, said a family will spend at least $75 on supplies for the upcoming school year.

“That’s more than what most families can afford,” Morris said.

Morris said the center will receive most of its supplies from Heart to Heart, a humanitarian organization with offices in the Kansas City metro area.

“It’s puts them on a level playing field so they want be behind,” Morris said. “In a way its like Christmas when you go back to school.”

She encourages parents to purchase extra supplies for students in need when they shop for their own children.

“Kids already feel different enough if they don’t have new shoes or clothing,” she said.”

The organization is asking families seeking assistance to call by July 10, to see if they qualify for the Back Pack program and to set up an appointment.

Supplies will be distributed 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 30 at the Spring Hill Multi-Service Center, 401 N. Madison St.

The Spring Hill Chamber of Commerce sent a list of items to members to assist the service center.

Some of the supplies on the list include baggies, colored pencils, Elmer’s glue, Kleenex, paper plates, pointed scissors, spiral notebooks, dividers, Clorox wipes, watercolors, clip boards and index cards.

For more information about donations, contact the Multi-Service Center at (913) 592-2304 or the chamber at (913) 592-3893.
