The Rev. Mike Folsom isn’t worried about the recent changes in his life. Instead, he’s looking forward to seeing what God has planned for him next.

When Folsom was told that his contract would not be renewed as an in-school suspension supervisor for Paola USD 368, he had to review his work situation. Still, with the support of his family and members of Paola Christian Church, where he has served as vocational pastor for the past two years, he wasn’t worried about the future.

“It was almost exciting to see what God was going to do,” he said.

God worked quickly through his church, where a group of elders met and decided that Folsom would be offered a full-time pastoral position, instead of the irregular hours he had previously been working.

Now, Folsom is looking forward to being available at the church throughout the day for people who need him, as well as being able to travel to hospitals or anywhere else his pastoral services are needed throughout the day.

It’s the next step in Folsom’s homecoming to the same church he was baptized and grew up in. Some of the people who attended the church when he was a child are still there.

“They knew me when I was not Pastor Mike,” Folsom said.

With the support from the church community, along with his wife, Loretta, and two young daughters, Folsom has helped grow the congregation at Paola Christian Church from about 30 to about 80 during the past two years.

“I have enjoyed every single day,” Folsom said. “God has blessed us in abundance.”

Now, as a full-time pastor, Folsom is ready to focus his energy on members of the community in need.

“We want to reach out to those who are lost and hurting,” Folsom said. “They may be searching for the Gospel or a place to find meaning.”

The welcoming attitude is displayed for all to see on a sign in the church’s sanctuary. It simply reads: “Come and see how we love one another.”
