The skies above Lake Miola will once again be filled with vibrant colors this year as community members gather Friday for the annual fireworks celebration in honor of the Fourth of July holiday. The event is organized and funded by the Paola Chamber of Commerce, and Executive Director Carol Everhart said donations are requested and will be collected at the gate. The show will begin at 9:30 p.m. Friday at Lake Miola, and the rain date for the show is July 11. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. Those attending the fireworks show can expect no major changes from last year. The fireworks again will be shot from the southeast corner of the lake. Local law enforcement officers will be on hand to help with crowd control and security, and their time has been donated. To make a donation or sign up to volunteer at the event, call the chamber at 294-4335 or send an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
