The sounds of Frank Sinatra will soon come to Spring Hill. Songs of Sinatra, a singer and Academy Award winning actor, will be performed by The Festival Choir and The Festival Ensemble next week. “We are not impersonating or imitating Frank Sinatra by any means,” said Eric Jones, piano player and director of the ensemble. Jones said Sinatra’s music was selected because of the universal appeal of the artist who sang “Strangers in the Night,” and “My Way.” “He recorded a lot,” Jones said. “It’s been difficult to twiddle it down to an hour,” said Jones, who has been a fan of Sinatra all his life. The Festival Choir and The Festival Ensemble began in 2005, with members of the Spring Hill United Methodist Church, and later included others from various communities. “It truly has become a community supported, fine arts group and we’re glad to see that,” Jones said. Jones and the ensemble will be assisted by Jon Daugharthy and Monica Lester. They have performed as featured soloist in previous concerts. Todd Davis will play percussion. Proceeds from the dinner will go towards the ensembles that perform for Christmas and Easter. Prices for the event are $25 per couple and $15 for one person. Julie Joeckel, coordinator of the ensembles, said about one-third of the show is already sold out. “The seating is extremely limited, so I encourage people not wait,” Joeckel said. “Ol’ Blue Eyes,” a musical tribute to Sinatra, is scheduled for 5 p.m. July 18 at the Spring Hill Community Center, 613 S. Race St. For more information call (913) 592-3660, or e-mail festival This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
