Paola FFA members Johanna Ryckert and Nathan Laudan recently traveled to Junction City for the Kansas FFA District Officer Conference held at Rock Springs Ranch. The event, which took place Aug. 15 and 16, had a theme of “Leadership and Beyond,” with the officers learning specifically about leadership, professionalism and focus, according to a news release. Ryckert serves as the East Central District President and Laudan serves as the district treasurer. They traveled to the event along with their advisors, Jeff Hines and Josh Evans, and fellow members of the East Central District Officer Team. The conference began with a Blast Off experience, helping district officers recognize why they serve. Learning their own leadership styles allotted the officers a chance to better understand their team dynamics. The session following further divulged into how professionalism and first impressions play a role in influencing others, according to the release. The evening included a banquet with special guests sponsored by the Kansas State University College of Agriculture. Inspiring words from Bethany Bohnenblust, national officer candidate from Labette County, and Fred Cholick, Dean and Director of the College of Agriculture and K-State Research and Extension, further encouraged the officers in their endeavors. The district officers later found themselves Focusing Their Telescope for how they were going to positively influence members by honing their skills in classroom management, direction giving, and workshop presenting, according to the release. The final mission of the conference was the Countdown to Lift Off. Time management and prioritizing were discussed along with planning tools, communication and promoting state events. As the conference drew to a close, district officers enjoyed an ice cream social sponsored by the Kansas FFA Alumni before heading home, according to the release. The Kansas FFA District Officers Conference is facilitated and organized by the officers of the Kansas FFA Association, the College of Agriculture at Kansas State University and the Kansas State Board of Education. The Kansas FFA Association has 7,302 members in 165 chapters.
