The northeast corner of Park Square certainly has seen its fair share of change during the past year.

TeamBank and Gail’s Glass & Collectibles were longtime staples of Paola and familiar sights for drivers cruising down Peoria Street. Likewise, Miller Pharmacy  has anchored the corner of Peoria and Pearl streets for more than 37 years, but that all changed Monday when it opened its doors instead as Rockers Pharmacy.
Change can be difficult to get used to, but like Steve Miller said upon his retirement, sometimes it’s good to get fresh ideas. The employees of Great Southern Bank no longer have to work amid uncertainty about its employer’s financial situation, and a new business is already making preparations to open in the storefront previously occupied by Gail’s.

And inside the former Miller Pharmacy, a young couple is diligently working to make their business a friendly place for customers to visit. In fact, Nate and Tara Rockers share the same type of passion and enthusiasm that Steve remembers seeing in himself and Mary when they first took over the small-town pharmacy.
Change is inevitable, but it’s how that change occurs that will affect a community’s future. Nate and Tara Rockers have made it clear they plan to be a part of the community for many years to come, and that’s the type of change small-town residents can truly embrace.
