It didn’t take long for Paola police detectives to track down several items stolen recently from W.H. Debrick Co. in Paola.

Capt. Kevin Colwell said detectives had been following up on leads ever since a 1997 Chevrolet pickup, 1993 Ford van and several tools inside the vehicles were taken from 610 W. Shawnee St. between 3:30 p.m. Sept. 14 and 7:29 a.m. Sept. 15. The items were valued at more than $16,000.

The van was found abandoned in Linn County on the same day of the report, and the pickup was discovered later at 7 Highway Auto Salvage near Fontana, where detectives received information about where two suspects lived, Colwell said.

After getting a warrant, Paola police officers and Linn County Sheriff’s deputies searched that property, 8085 W. 2300 Road in Parker, at 8:45 a.m. Friday.

Colwell said officers arrested Eric Harrington, 24, Parker, and booked him into Miami County Jail on charges of burglary, theft and criminal damage to property related to the incident at Debrick Co. Clint Robinson, 29, Parker, was arrested by Linn County sheriff’s deputies on unrelated charges, Colwell said.

Once inside a mobile home on the property, Colwell said, officers found hundreds of tools that matched the description of those taken from the Paola business. Many of them, such as a stolen ladder, had the Debrick name printed on them.

The items were taken back to the Paola Justice Center, where an employee from Debrick Co. came to pick them up Monday.
Officers also confiscated firearms on the property, Colwell said.
