Maria McDonald has been scrapbooking for about 15 years.

“It’s very relaxing,” McDonald said. “I enjoy doing different projects and doing a legacy for my family and sharing it with other people.”
On Friday, she will be sharing the legacy with others during the Chic Crop, a retreat scheduled to take place at the Spring Hill Community Center. She operates Crop-N-Doodle-Do with Angelia Weinzirl, a crafter of 11 years. The organization specializes in scrapbook retreats and other crafting specialities.

The upcoming event will feature a day and night of crop time, food and prizes.

“Hopefully, it’ll be a nice event, where people can relax and enjoy themselves and meet new friends,” McDonald said.

McDonald lives in Spring Hill with her family and has put together scrapbooks for families with newborns. Crop-N-Doodle-Do has held similar events on an informal basis.
She said it’s important for families to know about history and heritage, something that is made possible by scrapbooking.
“It’s better than looking through a big shoe box of random photos,” she said.

Some of the features of the retreat include product demonstrations, on-site vendors and different stations for scrapbooking and cropping.
The retreat is scheduled for 9 a.m. to midnight at the community center, 613 Race St. For more information or to register for the event, visit www.cropndoodledo.com.

Future Chic Crops are scheduled for Jan. 23, 2010 and March 6, 2010. A Mega Rooster Crop, a full three-day weekend retreat, is set for next year from April 30 to May 2.
