Schools across the country are celebrating National School Bus Safety Week this week, and one Hillsdale Elementary School student is being honored for her efforts to promote the event. Second-grader Evyn Rolf, 8, recently attended a ceremony in Salina where she was presented with a plaque for winning Division I in the state’s poster contest for school bus safety. The honor puts Evyn, and two other state division winners, into the running for a national award, which will be announced in Kentucky later this year, according to a news release from Hillsdale Elementary Principal Amy Hastert. Today is the culmination of the safety week, with it being School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Evyn’s teacher is Amanda Ozier. She is the daughter of Ed and Callie Rolf. The other state divisional winners were fourth-grader Natalie Flores of Altamont Grade School in Altamont, Kan., and sixth-grader Danielle Duke of Lincoln Central School in Cherryvale, Kan.
