Paola FFA members had a successful trip to Sundstrom Dairy in Ottawa last week when they competed in the East Central District Dairy Contest. The event featured 18 schools and about 200 students, and Paola FFA’s B-team came away with first place. The A-team placed sixth, FFA adviser Jeff Hines said. Individual honors include: Faith Johnson, fourth place for B-team; Natalie Hill, fifth place for B-team; Morgan Gilliland, 10th place for B-team; and Jessica Haas, eighth place for A-team. This week, members of Paola’s FFA team will head to Indianapolis for a national convention. Hines said there will be 28 people representing Paola High School, with both the farm management and meats teams competing. The event continues through Saturday. PHS grad Alyssa Jobe is a finalist for a national award in veterinary medicine, Hines said. Jobe currently works for Miami Vet Clinic in Paola. Three youths will also receive their American Degrees, Hines said.
