Parents, students and other community members can now receive instant updates on Paola USD 368 events, school closings, early dismissals and other district news thanks to a new Panther Alerts system. Landmark National Bank is sponsoring the new system, which community members can sign up for on the district’s Web site, www.usd368.k12.ks.us. Just click on the Panther Alerts tab on the left and follow the instructions. Community members can sign up to receive text messages or e-mails in any or all of nine different message groups: Paola High School, Paola Middle School, Hillsdale Elementary School, Sunflower Elementary School, Cottonwood Elementary School, PMS athletics and activities, PHS athletics and activities, Paola Adult Education Center and PACP-STARS. Superintendent Rod Allen said anyone signed up for any of the message groups will also receive weather closing information. He added that internal calling trees will remain intact for staff, but he has already received good feedback from the personnel who have signed up for Panther Alerts. “We had a couple soccer changes and a cancellation of a middle school football game,” Allen said. “It’s going to be great access for people.” Raymond McLanahan, Vice President of Landmark National Bank, said he had heard about the system before, and he and his fellow bank officials thought it would be a good fit in Paola. “We just thought it would be a huge benefit to the community,” he said. Signing up for the program requires a simple four steps, including entering a cell phone number or e-mail address, selecting what schools or programs you wish to receive notices from, select continue and wait to receive a code number in a text message or e-mail and then enter the code number online and select submit.
