Paola High School theater students will join members of the drama club, KAYS and other organizations on Halloween to help refill the dwindling shelves of the community’s food pantry. Students plan to go door-to-door beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday collecting food items during the event, which is called Trick Or Treat So Kids Can Eat. All of the food items collected will go to the Paola Association for Church Action’s food pantry located at My Father’s House in Paola. PACA officials recently announced the pantry has had an influx of people asking for assistance, and more donations are needed. Anyone who would like to help but doesn’t want to be disturbed may leave the porch light on and place the nonperishable food items on the porch in a bag or box that is clearly visible from the street. Anyone who wants to meet and greet the students during the collection may leave the porch light on, but keep the food items inside. Any donations that are missed may be dropped off at the barrel at Price Chopper in Paola until Tuesday afternoon. Residents may also call Paola High School on Monday morning, and someone will pick up the food that day, according to a news release. All nonperishable food items are welcome, and monetary donations are also useful because they allow PACA to provide vouchers for meat, produce and other necessities. If you choose to make a monetary donation, please make checks out to PACA, according to the release.
