Bob Harrington, who began working for The Miami County Republic in 1949 and developed a strong community following covering sports, outdoor sports, farm, record and other news, passed away Sunday at the age of 83.  A feature story on Harrington’s life will be printed in all three Miami County Newspapers on Wednesday along with his obituary and a memorial column written by current sports editor Gene Morris. Harrington was still working for the newspaper at the time of his death, putting his tenure with the company at 60 years. A public memorial service is scheduled to take place at noon November 13 on Paola’s Park Square.

Bob was also my uncle. I heard of his death on my way to Port Charolette,Fla. I spoke with him just two days ago and sent him some POW letters his brother Don had sent to my mother, his sister.These were in 1943 and he wanted to finish his history of the Harrington family. It was with sorrow that I heard of the loss of Bob. I recall the time he asked my help identifying an old rifle he purchased. This was necessary since he wanted to shoot it and he needed to know what ammo to purchase. With some effort I was able to ID it as a Model 1871 Mauser carbine and he was able to get done what he wanted . So long Bob, see you on the other side.
