Bernadette Greufe has been organizing an annual event for many years. Saturday’s Spring Hill Annual Craft Show will mark the 16th time she has managed the event, which benefits the high school’s After Prom Committee. Greufe said the purpose of the event is to have a craft show in town for people to attend. She started the annual event with money from her own pocket. In 2008, about $900 from the show went to the After Prom Committee. She no longer has children or grandchildren enrolled in the Spring Hill USD 230 schools, but she is still involved in the community. “It’s something I got started, and I hate to give it up,” Greufe said about the popular event. “Last year we had a pretty good turnout.” Along with the vendors and crafters, the After Prom Committee will sell treats in the morning and evening. Greufe said she supports the purpose of the committee. “I thought it was a good idea to keep the kids off the streets and to keep them from drinking,” she said. She has two children, Dwayne Greufe and Denise Ward, and two grandchildren, Amy Greufe and Michelle Greufe. Both her granddaughters, who are now attending college, have plans to be teachers. “I’m not a spring chicken anymore,” she said. The former crossing guard and cafeteria worker is looking forward to Saturday. “You’ll get to see a lot of old friends,” she said. “It’s a big thing for the community to look forward to every year.” Greufe is selling designer shirts with rhinestones. She said there will be a mix of items at the show, including Christmas items, jewelry and makeup. “You never know who’s going to come in,” she said. “It’s going to be a little bit of everything.” The craft show is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Spring Hill Elementary School gymnasium, 300 S.
