1927-2009 Lester C. “L.C.” Raines Jr., 82, Louisburg, died Oct. 31, 2009, at his home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Louisburg, the son of Lester C. Sr. and Lillie M. Wilson Raines. L.C. graduated from Louisburg High School in 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1962. He married Sue J. Sloan on June 3, 1951, at First Christian Church in Louisburg. In 1970, he and his wife purchased a farm, where they raised their three children and earned a living from farming. He lived on the property until his death. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sue of the home; a son, Allen W. Raines of Niceville, Fla.; two daughters, Melinda S. Montgomery of Olathe and Kathy E. Brant of Louisburg; three brothers, Robert W. Raines of Bella Vista, Ark., Glenn A. Raines of Baylis, Ill., and Earl Raines of Lovell, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the First Christian Church in Louisburg. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. before the services. Burial will follow in the Louisburg Cemetery.
