A 7-0 first-quarter run highlighted a 34-9 victory for the Paola Middle School eighth-grade varsity girls basketball team at home against Ottawa on Thursday evening.

The Panthers extended the lead to 16-2 at the half, outscoring Ottawa 9-2 in the second quarter.

Paola held a 6-2 advantage in the third quarter and closed out the win with a 12-5 run in the fourth quarter.

Eight players scored in the win for the Panthers.

Emilee Johnson, Regan Boyer, Katelyn Bell and Kaelah McMullin each scored in the first quarter to spark Paola to its 7-0 start.
Paola went to a full-court press late in the second quarter and forced four Ottawa turnovers in less than two minutes.
Boyer led Paola offensively with nine points. Katie Jo Kirk finished with six points. Johnson added five points. Kelsey Slawson scored four points.

Other players scoring for Paola were Aly Johnson, Michelle Wilkes, Bell and McMullin.

Defensively, the eighth-grade junior varsity girls held Ottawa to a total of two baskets in a 30-4 victory.

Paola went on a 9-0 run in the first quarter and an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter.

Heather Clark led the Panthers with seven points. Alicia Morgan scored six points. Alyssa Larson and Michelle Macke each had four points. Other players scoring for Paola were Jessica Kramer, Madison Auten, Lauren Frederick, Heather Tracy and Kaylee Hill.
The Paola eighth-grade varsity girls closed out each half with strong quarters in a 32-11 victory against Mill Creek on Nov. 3.
The Panthers went on an 11-5 run in the second quarter and outscored Ottawa 10-0 in the fourth quarter.

McMullin led the way with nine points. Bell scored five points. Allie Ozier, Emilee Johnson and Kirk each had four points.
Other players scoring for Paola were Aly Johnson, Wilkes and Slawson.

Larson and Morgan topped double figures to lead the Paola junior varsity girls past Mill Creek, 42-5.
Morgan scored 11 points. Larson had 10 points.

Kramer scored five points. Clark, Frederick and Macke each had four points. Other players scoring for Paola were Heather Tracy and Auten.

The Paola eighth-grade varsity lost to Spring Hill 22-14 on Oct. 29.

Wilkes led Paola with eight points. Kirk, Slawson and McMullin each had two points.

The Paola junior varsity lost to Spring Hill 16-14.

Tracy had four points. Other players scoring for the Panthers were Auten, Clark, Morgan and Hill.
