Seven members of the Paola Middle School Kansas Association for Youth Club recently attended the Area 2 KAY Regional Conference at Northeast High School in Arma, Kan. The event took place on Nov. 6, and the club members received the Gold Award in recognition of their student leadership and service to their school, community, nation and world for the 2008-2009 school year. The theme for the 2009 Regional Conference was “Building Leaders: KAY Edition!” At the conference, student leaders and sponsors from neighboring clubs shared their successes and challenges, as well as exchanged ideas. Local KAY members attending the Regional Conference were: Kelsey Slawson, Katelyn Bell, Mitch Oberg, P.J. Capettini, Allie Ozier, Kenzie Getz and Cassandra Blanc. Rhonda Prothe, the club’s sponsor, accompanied the club members to the conference. The Kansas Association for Youth is a character-building, leadership-training, service program directed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
