The Paola USD 368 recently received a financial boost from local businesses. First Option Bank presented the district with a check for $19,789.84 at the Paola vs. Osawatomie football game. The check represented proceeds from the bank’s Panther School Logo Check Card program, in which local bank patrons can choose to have a Panther logo card and contribute some money to the district. Since the program began, it has generated $31,220.02 for the district, according to a news release. Likewise, Miami County Medical Center recently presented the district with a check for $5,000 to represent the medical center’s annual support of district programs. It’s a contribution the hospital has been making for more than ten years. In addition to the check, the medical center also supports other district initiatives, such as providing athletic trainer support services for athletic programs, according to the release. Thanks to the donations from the medical center and First Option Bank, the district has been able to help support the following programs and initiatives: Foster Grandparents program Watchdogs Programs (Cottonwood, Sunflower and Hillsdale elementaries, along with Paola Middle School) Die cut machine Paola Academic Completion Program (reading materials) Selected library books for special reading lists Physical education climbing walls in all elementary school gyms Heart monitors for physical education classes Hand weights for Paola Middle School Marathon supplies (grades 3-5; Hillsdale and Sunflower elementaries) AED’s to ensure every school has one Flu Shots Clinic for all district employees at $15 reduced cost (70+ shots given in October) District wellness program incentives and health assessments Support for planned staff health fair next fall “The programs supported would not be possible without their generous contributions, especially in light of required budget reductions due to decreased funding from the state,” a district news release stated.
